Licence
One licence, two classifications — and both matter.
B — General Building is the general
contractor’s classification: structures requiring at least two
unrelated building trades. C-61/D-16 — Hardware, Locks
and Safes is the specialty for locks, which the CSLB defines
as installing, modifying or repairing power and manually activated
door and window locks with related hardware, built-in safes and
vaults.
Why the pair matters on a lock-out: under California law a B licence
on its own cannot take a prime contract for a job involving
only one trade. The D-16 is what makes a single lock call — one
re-key, one lock-out, one deadbolt — work we can legally take
on its own. Plenty of contractors hold a B. Far fewer hold the lock
specialty alongside it.
We have also been a licensed California real estate
broker since 1985, DRE No. 00896551. That does not
license lock work — the CSLB classification above does
— but it is why a lock-out here is handled by someone who
knows what it means for the tenancy, the listing or the escrow.
Every one of these numbers is public. Look them up before you let
anyone touch your door — ours or anyone else’s.
